                          About Us

Nosloc® feeders were developed out of frustration with existing products available not meeting my requirements,  having used or experienced first hand the limitations of all these products on the market.  My requirements were, must be waterproof, vermin proof, not feed undesirables – sparrows, blackbirds etc, be able to operate over water or land.

After 5 years of field trials Nosloc® feeders have evolved into an efficient, affordable feeding system that has found favour with hunters, conservationists, free range poultry farms, wild life parks, zoo’s and many backyard aviculturists. Many hours of research and development at the Otorohanga Kiwi House, Auckland Zoo, wild ponds and domestic poultry farms have resulted in a simple but effective on demand feeder.

By setting up the feeder correctly (following the instructions) one can target the species you wish to feed.  In the domestic poultry situation you only want to feed the chickens.  The height of the feeder is the key so that only the chicken (or other avain species) operate the feeder nozzle.  No sparrows, mynah, rats or mice can reach the nozzle, thus only the chickens are fed.

Feeder nozzles can be attached to a variety of food receptacles.  The most practical  being food grade 20Ltr plastic buckets for the average size chicken run or 200 Ltr drums with multiple feeder nozzles for commercial use.  This method comes into its own with open pens.   Not only do you save feed but less money is spent on the construction of the pens, free range speaks for itself.

In the free range situation the feeder must be protected from stock.
This set up using buckets or drums offers total food protection from faecal contamination.  Bird flu and salmonella are carried by wild sparrows etc and spread by faecal contamination.

The known species that have fed successfully to date are chickens, wild ducks – including mallards, greys, brown and grey teal, domestic ducks, turkeys, Canadian geese, black swan, mute swan, pheasants, pukeko, peacocks, guinea fowl, grouse, partridge, pigeons, weka, crane, and doves.

                          How it works.
The Nosloc® feeder works on gravity.
Usually a bucket (20Ltr) has a feeder nozzle screwed to the base
of the bucket and feed placed into it which runs into the nozzle.
Depending on how the nozzle is set up the feed particles lock against
each other into the nozzle, and stays there.
                          Hence the name Nosloc®
The birds quickly learn to tap the nozzle which releases the feed.
When the bird stops tapping the feed stops running.
Thus we have an on demand gravity feeder which is only activated
by your target bird rather than pest species like sparrows, mynah etc.
For a live Demonstration see the video on the homepage.

                          Components
Generally the feeder is supplied complete
See “Complete Unit” on the order form.
This consists of  1 feeder nozzle, 1 20Ltr bucket  1 bracket of your choice.
This is a convenient way to package and post out.

                          Mounting
Brackets have been developed for easy mounting and height adjustments.
The Waratah bracket fits onto a waratah standard.
Height can be adjusted up or down via the bolt holes in the standard.
The bucket hangs on its own handle to the top of the bracket.
Post/Wall brackets are usually screwed or nailed to a fixed position.
The bucket hangs on its own handle to the top of the bracket.

So far over 10,000 units have been sold.

THIS ON DEMAND FEEDING SYSTEM IS THE MOST EFFICIENT AND COST EFFECTIVE  SYSTEM AVAILABLE.
